Hot Tottie Recipe

No one likes feeling under the weather but here's a nice little recipe that will make you feel better and help you move towards recovery. This recipe was given to me by my fiance`'s mother when Matthew and I first moved in together. She got the recipe while attending college in the UK. This is a recipe that has never failed to make us feel better and I hope that you have the same experience!

Here's what you'll need:

1 cup water

1 cup lemon juice

1 1/2 cup whiskey

1 1/2 cup honey

4 cloves

To Make a Hot Tottie:

Put the water, lemon juice and whiskey in first. Be sure that the mixture is heating up before you add the honey. It is ok for it to be a gentle boil when you add the honey but be sure to turn it down as you add the honey. Gradually add the honey in a little at a time. *STIR CONSTANTLY when you add the honey or your pot WILL boil over!*

Once the honey is added in you can add the cloves and bring to a boil again. Again be sure to stir! Reduce heat and allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Now it's ready! Enjoy!

Tips:

You can use fresh lemons if you have them but I like to keep lemon juice in the fridge for this. It's hard to have fresh things ready just in case you get sick.

Add more honey or whiskey to make it taste good for you. Start with my suggested recipe and then cater to your own tastes.

If you make this for a child simply remove the whiskey from the recipe.

I hope that this helps comfort you and combat those cold and flu symptoms. If you liked this hub please visit my other hub on cold and flu remedies here.

Beth-

I'm glad it helped! It's a tastier option than cough syrup or sore throat sprays and works just as well!

Matt-

I've honestly never thought about serving size. We drink this out of coffee mugs and get about 5 or 6 drinks out of this. Thanks for stopping in!

The cloves are optional. Sometimes I leave them out because my husband doesn't really like them. Thanks for stopping by!

I generally use Clan McGregor's Whiskey because it's cheaper than the Jamison Whiskey that we also keep in the house.

Any whiskey will do. I just try not to use anything high end since the amount in the recipe would make that very expensive!
